Vintage yukata cottons, Kona white cotton
Pieced with cotton 50 wt thread.
Batting: Quilter's Dream Cotton Select Loft
Quilting design: Custom Free-form
Quilted with Glide PremoSoft 40 wt in Navy and Aurafil 30 wt cotton in white.
Binding: Faced/Invisible stitched down with a big stitch (like Sashiko) showing on the front, except along the border design where it's completely invisibly stitched.
This quilt was originally intended to be a wall hanging until my daughter claimed it! She wanted something lightweight. I switched gears and changed my original quilting plan to be a little more dense but still open. I tried to follow the flow of the flowers and greenery stems using echoes and mirroring. The fabrics were purchased to be used in David Owen Hastings' Modern Indigo class at the 2024 MidAtlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton, Va. My daughter chose a color from the front and that's how I chose the backing.
